Apply now to start 4th October 2021

Auditions are open to people aged 17 and over in September on the year of entry. Due to the intensive nature of the audition we will only consider 16 year olds in exceptional circumstances. There is no upper age limit for audition. Entry to the course is determined by audition only. The MTA offers EVERY applicant written feedback on their audition.

There are only 22 places available each year, and offers are made immediately after the audition.

The audition day is your opportunity to see how we would intend to work with you, as well as giving us an idea if you would fit into The MTA.  You can choose whether you audition in person or online. We audition from January – August each year. However please note that we offer places as we go along so you are strongly advised to apply sooner rather than later. Applications are closed as soon as all places have gone for that academic year

Our Whole Day Audition

You will spend the day with us, working with various staff members.

The day will consist of:

  • Welcome & Introduction
  • Physical warm up
  • A dance class
  • A Voice workshop
  • An Acting workshop
  • Vocal warm up
  • Individual monologue and song auditions
  • Interviews with the senior faculty
  • Q & A Session with the Principal
  • As The MTA is an intensive course expect to work hard on the audition day.

You will be required to prepare and perform one monologue and one Musical Theatre song – lasting no more than 6 minutes combined (the shorter the better!). The monologue can be modern or classical depending on where you think your strength lies. You must provide sheet music for the song (no backing tracks) as a pianist will be provided for you on the day. Please note no pop songs will be permitted. Your speech/song will be stopped if you go over the 6 minute (combined) limit.

There will be no more than 15 people on any Whole Day audition

Our Online Audition

You will spend half a day in the audition zoom with the senior faculty.
2 days prior to the audition you will be sent instructions on how to complete the virtual dance audition. The dance tape must be received before the online audition.

The day will consist of:

  • Welcome and introduction
  • Voice workshop
  • Improvisation session
  • Meet with current or past students
  • Individual monologue and song auditions
  • Q & A Session with the Principal

You will be required to prepare and perform one monologue and one Musical Theatre song – lasting no more than 6 minutes combined (the shorter the better!). The monologue can be modern or classical depending on where you think your strength lies. You must perform with a backing track. Please note no pop songs will be permitted. Your speech/song will be stopped if you go over the 6 minute (combined) limit. Staff might workshop some things around your performance.

There will be no more than 6 people on an online audition, we still want to spend the time to get to know you.

NO AUDITION FEE

We require a £30 deposit to secure your audition date, however, this will be refunded to you in full, via Paypal on the day of your audition, unless you fail to show, in which case you will forfeit your £30 deposit.

We encourage you to submit a free #auditionfromhome self-tape audition prior to paying for a Whole Day, in a bid to save the cost of travel and accommodation. You can submit an #auditionfromhome before the official start date in each year, if that helps you to plan your audition ‘circuit’.

You will also be gifted 2 tickets to one of our full productions as part of the experience, so that you can see us in action for yourselves, prior to the audition. If you have any immediate questions you can DM or PM us on any of our socials.

Remember, our auditions are allocated on a first come, first served basis and are restricted in numbers to ensure the quality of the experience so don’t delay, book today and be part of #theMTAway
